Under the direction of distinguished professional faculty members Robyn Driedger-Klassen and Alan Corbishley, VAM offers students the opportunity to participate in the performance of an extensive range of vocal repertoire. Works may include art song, cantata, cabaret, opera and chamber music.
Keeping in mind the ever-changing world of performing arts, students will be given valuable tools in learning to create unique performances from the classical vocal repertoire.
Over the eight-week workshop in each term, music will be assigned to fit students’ particular strengths and needs. Emphasis will be placed on music preparation, poetry and character study, collaboration, stage-craft and production. Each term will focus on a particular theme (e.g. “Music Inspired by the Works of Goethe”) and will culminate in a fully-produced show for the public.
Care will be taken to assign music that encourages the exploration of vocal repertoire from all eras and languages, is technically challenging (but never strenuous), and that is of particular interest to the student.
